A study in light, time, and surface, Solar Impressions explores the cyanotype process as both image-making and material record. Using sunlight as an active agent, the work captures exposures that register duration, intensity, and environmental variation. The resulting Prussian blue tones emerge through a process that is at once controlled and contingent.
Forms are created through direct contact and exposure, where objects, transparencies, or gestures interrupt and filter the light. These interactions produce layered silhouettes, tonal shifts, and subtle gradations that reflect both intention and chance. Variations in exposure time and washing introduce further complexity, allowing each print to retain traces of its making.
Edges shift between crisp outlines and diffused transitions, shaped by the movement of light and the properties of the materials used. The surface holds a range of textures, from smooth fields of saturated blue to areas marked by water, chemistry, and residue. The work invites close attention to process, encouraging a contemplative engagement with light as both subject and collaborator.
